My Story: I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, in a Methodist environment, the son of a Professor of Law at The Ohio State University. When it came time for college, I journeyed to the College of Wooster, where I majored in physics.  Science became all-encompassing for me, and I received my Ph.D. from Ohio State for the study of non-linear laser spectroscopy. Through all of this, I began to see the beauty of God’s plan in His universe, from the very small to the very large.  I have been blessed with a charming wife and four great children. After coming to Maryland to work for the National Institutes of Health, my career has focused on the use of optical methods  to detect cancer, but my personal interests have turned to a study of the early Christian church and the way that it developed into the church today. We have found a warm Christian home at Oakdale Emory, and I am pleased to serve in any capacity for which I may be called.

Ministry Area: Chair, Staff Parish Relations Committee

Family: Wife: Karen    Four boys: Doug, Mike, Eric, Brian.   Four Grandchildren

Passion: For 12 weeks each fall and early winter, my greatest passion is Ohio State football. But at all times, I am driven by my work. The efforts to create new imaging tools to battle cancer are difficult, but it is very rewarding when we hear of individual successes. Currently, I am very excited about a study of the Gospel of Mark, and learning about its role in the creation and development of the early church.

Favorite Pastime Activities: Believe it or not, I like doing yard work around the house. With five acres to take care of, it is a full time job during summer week-ends. I also enjoy working in my shop, making furniture and other things for my wife. I also like taking our dog, Dakota, for evening walks. She is great!

Little-known Fact: I enjoy making muzzle-loading rifles and collecting World War II authentic rifles. Our son, Brian, and I enjoy going to the range for target practice.
